CHANGEMENT DE CAP/COURSE CHANGE

Mon affectation risque de se modifier un peu d'ici un mois et j'espère que ça va fonctionner. Une partie de mon travail consiste à faire l'évaluation du programme mis en place ici pour aider les communes à effectuer une meilleure gestion. Nous sommes 5 qui essayons d'implanter le programme dans la Province de l'Extrême-Nord. Dans les prochaines semaines, je rencontrerai les 4 autres personnes individuellement afin d'entendre leurs commentaires sur le programme et pouvoir analyser ce qui se passe ici.

J'ai appris hier qu'on veut me faire faire le même travail ailleurs. Cette implantation existe également dans la Province du Nord-Ouest (une des 2 provinces anglophones du Cameroun). En effet, le Cameroun était en partie une colonie française et en partie une colonie anglaise lorsqu'il a acquis son indépendance vers 1960. L'implantation existe également dans la Province de l'Extrême-Sud.

Alors au lieu de rester ici jusqu'au 8 janvier environ, je redescendrais à Yaoundé autour du 8 décembre. Je voyagerais ensuite dans les autres provinces afin de rencontrer les coopérants qui y travaillent pour faire la même évaluation. Quelle chance pour moi! Je vais avoir vu presque tout le pays et d'après ce qu'on m'a dit ce sont toutes des régions très différentes les unes des autres. En fait, cette nouvelle affectation est déjà confirmée mais j'ai appris qu'en Afrique tout peut changer tout le temps. Donc, tant que je n'y suis pas, des modifications peuvent encore avoir lieu. Le seul bémol à cela est que déjà j'ai développé des bonnes amitiés avec d'autres coopérants ici dans le Nord. Le reste de mon périple risque d'être un peu plus solitaire mais c'est pour une courte période, je visiterai de nouveaux endroits et ensuite je rentrerai à la maison.

Je me console en me disant que de toute façon plusieurs coopérants s'en iront sur le bord de la mer pendant le congé de Noël, alors j'aurais peut-être été seule de toute façon. Dans mon cas, ça aurait été un peu gênant de prendre deux semaines de vacances pour un contrat de 3 mois et demi. La plupart de mes collègues sont ici pour au moins un an et parfois même deux ans. Les seuls autres contrats de courte durée sont les stagiaires, leur affectation est de 6 mois.

My placement might change in a month and i am hoping that it will work. Part of my work is to monitor and evaluate the programme developped to help the communes better manage their affairs. We are 5 people trying to implement that programme in the Extreme-North Province. In the next few weeks, I will meet with the 4 others individually in order to hear their comments on the programme and analyze where we are.

I found out yesterday that my organization wants me to do the same evaluation somewhere else. That implementation is also taking place right now in the Northwest Province (one of the 2 English provinces of Cameroun). In fact, Cameroun was partly a British Colony and partly a French Colony when they reached their independence around 1960. This implementation is also taking place in the Far South of the country.

Instead of staying here until January 8, i would go back to Yaoundé around the 8th of December. Then i would travel in the other provinces to meet with the cooperants working over there. Very interesting for me! I will have seen a good part of the country and I was told that each area is very different than the other.

In fact, that modification is already confirmed, but this is Africa! It still can change anytime. The only downside is that I developed good friendships with other cooperants here up North. The rest of my adventure will be more in solitude. But it is for a short period, i will visit new places and then i will be back home.

I comfort myself by saying that anyway most of the cooperants are going down at the beach for the X-Mas Holidays, so I would have been by myself during that period anyway. I would not have felt comfortable taking 2 weeks off for a contract of 3 months and a half. Most of my colleagues are here for at least one year, sometimes 2.
